Emerson

"Whoso would be a man, must be a non-conformist" -Ralph Waldo Emerson.
According to Emerson, it'd be quite a task to find a man in today's world. Most jobs have either uniforms or dress codes. They even outlines at restaurants and retail stores on how to interact with people properly. A lawyer would never walk into a courtroom wearing something he finds comfortable. He'd be seen as unprofessional and even lazy wearing anything less than the traditional dress suit.
Of course, in today's world it goes much deeper than that. Especially in a school setting with thousands of college students roaming the campus. Everyone dresses about the same, and there is little difference in how many students carry out their day. Most girls want to be skinny, and most guys would like to be "ripped." Very rarely do you see a girl without make up in public, or a guy wearing a dress.... thank God on both of those. I'd have to say that conforming somewhat to our society is necessary for our survival today. A guy with a long scraggly beard wouldn't be allowed to hold a respectable job. A lover of the drink wouldn't exactly make the best daycare nurse. There are basic procedures for how to talk to an interviewer for a job, but I'd suggest not following them to the slightest detail. As long as someone can bring a good personality to the table and isn't expecting something to be handed to him, I'm not going to say he's not a man judging by his snap back and polo.
